Item Description

Play with the D'Addario EJ Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings that made D'Addario and so many artists famous!

"We love their strings, great tone and long lasting!" - Darius Rucker

D'Addario EJ Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings offer a warm, well balanced acoustic tone, with bright intonation and a "fret-friendly" round wound feel that made them D'Addario's most popular acoustic guitar strings. D'Addario received worldwide acclaim in 1974 for introducing Phosphor Bronze to string making, giving their strings such superb, long-lasting tone.

For even longer lasting tone, try D'Addario EXP Coated Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings.

All D'Addario strings are precisely wound around a hexagonally shaped high-carbon-steel core wire by computer-controlled machines guaranteeing clear intonation, rock-solid fundamentals, and incomparable consistency in every string. The tight core tension produced through this rigorous quality-controlled process results in a harmonically rich, longer-lasting string.

D'Addario has incorporated Corrosion Intercept Technology with their environmentally friendly packaging to insure your strings are green, and fresh for the pickin'!

The application of Corrosion Intercept Technology, developed by Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs, is the most significant development in string packaging since D'Addario pioneered the environmental string package in 1992. Each Corrosion Intercept bag employs a plastic which contains a gas-neutralizing barrier in the polymer matrix. This barrier reacts with and neutralizes gasses which cause materials to tarnish, guaranteeing that your D'Addario strings are as fresh and tarnish-free as the day we packaged them. Since Corrosion Intercept bags are both environmentally friendly and completely recyclable, they'll keep our planet untarnished as well.

Also, as a result of D'Addario's Player's Points Program, several tons of packaging redeemed for D'Addario gear gets systematically recycled every year.

All D'Addario packaging is either produced from recycled materials or is completely recyclable.

There's a reason why they're so popular
I've spent a lot of time and money trying different acoustic guitar strings, from expensive German stuff to specialist round-core stuff, almost deliberately avoiding D'Addario. I bought a set of these really as a standby, but like them - a lot. They feel easy under the fingers and there's something about the blend of zing and richness that makes them sit well in a mix. They also last at least as well as any other non-coated strings. It's been an education, but the lesson is that D'Addario (with whom I have no affiliation, sadly) is always worth a go.
ProsSound, longevity, feel, consistency, price.
ConsNone worth mentioning.

My Personal Favorite
I play a 1974 Ovation, 2004 Taylor, strum hard, finger pick often, play RnB, Jazz, Pop, Folk and Rock and over the past 45 years I've tried many brands. I choose D'Addario Phosphor Bronze medium strings. They always have a beautiful tone.
ProsSound, Performance, Longevity, Intonation and Comfort.
ConsNone.

True Mediums for alt tuning
I use a lot of different tunings and I found that these strings stand up to the constant changes. I like the fact that with C tuning the 6th string is far less likely to bottom out and make buzzes. I would give these 5 Stars but they do lose their sound after a week or so of moderate playing. Especially the bass strings.
ProsGood for alternate tunings.
ConsDie too quickly

Great Quality!
I love these strings. I have tried other (more expensive) brands of strings on my guitar, but I still like these the best. I use them on my classic ovation and they sound great!
ProsSound Durability Price
ConsStrings can get dirty, I think because they are not coated strings. I don't prefer coated strings though, so I can live with it,

My Go-To Strings for the Last 20 Years
I can't tell you how many times I have stabbed my poor fingers with the pointy end of D'Addario phosphor bronze guitar strings while executing string changes in the course of the last 20 years. But I CAN tell you that I'd rather suffer these little accidents with EJ-17s than any other strings on the market today. In terms of quality, consistent tone from set to set, the way they feel under the fingers, the color-coded ball ends, and the company's conscientious and ground-breaking environmental packaging, no other string brand approaches the height of the bar that the D'Addario company has set. I know that when I open a package of EJ-17s, they will be fresh, untarnished, all present, and will take only a day or two to lose that "new" metallic tone and settle in. I know how they will sound on my guitar, stay in tune, and last a month or more before they need to be replaced. And at less than $6 a set retail, we're a lot better off than fiddle players. Of course, as the automobile commercials tell you, "Your mileage may vary." You may not like these strings as much as I do. But that's OK--I know exactly what I am buying when I plunk down for these strings. I have tried other brands of guitar strings, and always return to D'Addario EJ-17s. In a complicated world, this is one decision that's a no-brainer.
ProsTone Consistency Reliability Color coding for quick ID Smart packaging

Consistent, Decent tone
Not the greatest, but nice and bright sounding and feel great. These would be my first choice for performing/touring, as they will take a beating and stay in tune and stay bright, and they're fairly inexpensive. For recording, I might choose something a bit warmer instead. More of a matter of personal taste.

Sound good but don't last long
The first week they sound great, but after that you can hear the sound deteriorate and after the second week they start sounding very dull, especially low E string, and especially when fingerpicking. I switched to elixirs which retain clarity and focus much longer.

the standard
These are used all over for a reason. They're consistent, available in just about any gauge, and priced reasonably. They have a somewhat softer feel compared to more boutique string makers, but produce good volume and a balanced sound.

Great Strings / Terrific Value / My Go-To Strings
I've been a string nerd for years... tried dozens of brands, styles and gauges. Frankly...I came back to the EJ16s about a year ago and I couldn't be happier. They are VERY consistent - they sound exactly the same from set to set. Really nice sustain and warmth, without being "jangly" like Elixirs. They get in tune quickly and they STAY in tune. I'm not afraid to put a set on just before a gig. I can be a bit heavy-handed with some of my playing and these really stand up well too. The ONLY thing I could possibly fault them for is that they can be a bit squeaky when they are fresh.

Simply the best
I've tried pretty much every string on the market, and I always come back to D'Addario. Why? Because they're simply the best strings money can buy. They feel the best, sound the best and last longer than any other string. I'm done with brand swapping, D'Addario strings will be all I use from now on.
ProsFeel Tone Last a long time Good value
ConsAll 6 strings come in one plastic bag. Strings are coiled together two at a time instead of individually.

The Work Horse PB STring
I have been using D'Addario EJ-16's for years as my workhorse String set. I have used them on all types of guitars, and tho I dabble in some exotic string choices from time to time, I always come back to these. They last a good long time, have a nice mid-range tone (I prefer mahogany guitars and they work great for that). The colored ball ends make changes a breeze. PLUS... they are the best deal out there.
ProsTone is great Last a long time Colored ball ends make changes a breeze Versatile
