Awesome flatwound strings
Warm, thick sound. Nice strings if you have 2 different mandolins and want to make much more difference between them.

D'Addario Flatwounds
Excellent strings for classical, jazz or world music. I especially like how they sound when performing or recording with a classical guitar. They are easy on the fingers also!

Great for jazz/blues
I've been using these strings on a KM900 and this combo produces the exact tone I need for jazz/blues. Nice and round tones.

Nice thumpy tone.
Awesome tone for my old Gibson A, especially for old-time music. Long-lasting too.

Inexpensive alternative
I was using the flatwounds from & when they stopped selling them I went looking for an alternative - Thomastics are priced WAY out of range. I like these as they have that characteristic flatwound tone - less "Zing" and more even going from unwound to wound string pairs than with roundwounds. More of the "wood" coming thru in the tone
ProsWarmer, woodier tone with less "Zing" than roundwounds. One third the price of the Jazzmando strings One Fifth the price of Thomastics

D'Addario FW74's
Mellower / darker than J74's and not much of a volume loss though due to warmth of tone it seems like it loses a bit of volume. A LOT less expensive than Thomastiks and not quite as mellow. Didn't take long to break them in either. I like 'em!! Great price here at String and Beyond too.
