They Still Sing

Thomastik Spectrum Bronze strings have great tensility, like Martin SPs and Dean Markley Signature Series. You can tell when you first unravel them. I have an old Yamaha 12-string with slotted headstock, a boom box. SPs can last for years, kept at pitch. I give it a caning and they still sound excellent. They never rust, tarnish or break, but slotted headstocks tend not to cause breakage like posts can. SPs are made of pure, high tensile metals. Highest quality. I hope they never compromise their quality. They are a golden colour, solid, not just plated, if I'm right, because they remain golden all the way down.
  • High tensility and extremely long-lasting. They look great too. Austrian quality, since 1919, I see. The original steel strings.

great but a glitch

I mothballed my Guild F212, which I bought in 1969, for a couple of years. When I got it back out I decided to spend the extra bucks and get these strings. I was immediately impressed with the sound of these strings as I wound them on. I start out roughly tuning the strings a step or two low and all was well until the last string. As I wound that string up to a D, it broke. That had never happened in over 50 years and now I am stuck with an 11-string box. As disappointing as that is, the sound is still far superior to any I have used before. I only wish I could buy just that one string.

Absolutely worth the money.

I have used both Spectrum Bronze and Plectrum on my 12 string. Absolutely blown away with the clarity and feel of these strings. I didn't realize that there could be such a difference. I will use Thomastik-Infeld from now on.

It's been a long wait

I have been searching for the perfect string ever since I bought my Guild F212 in 1965, and I believe I may have found it. Besides their extraordinay clarity and uniformity, these Thomastik-Infeld strings are the easiest to tune (even with Schaller machines this box has always been a beast). Oddly they tend to slide down considerably in pitch overnight, but hold it very well while playing - including heavy flat picking. If I get a month's use out of these sounding this good, I can stop looking.
  • Fantastic clarity and resonance and exceptionally well balanced. Easy to tune with great intonation.
  • Not exactly a dislike, but I have to see how long the honeymoon lasts.

It Doesn't Get Better

Very full sound but not muted. Warmer than the phos/bronze I had been using from that British company. When tuned to standard E, these strings hold pitch nicely in both unison and octaves. All 12 strings sound better than ever. Highest recommendation.

  • Warm, full sound. Long-lasting tuned to pitch.
  • Not a thing.
