Item Description

Thomastik-John Pearse® Guitar Strings - Silver Plated/Nylon Wound

Now! The strings that established John's international reputation back in the 70's--the THOMASTIK- JOHN PEARSE® SET. A revolutionary departure from a "traditional" classical string construction, every string is wound, even the first! Made like a fine violin string, the trebles are a braided metal rope core wound on with a flat nylon monofilament, while the basses are a perlon floss core wound on with a silverplated bell bronze wire. For many years, the preferred strings of the top Brazilian guitarists, the THOMASTIK- JOHN PEARSE® set gives unbelievable clarity, projection and volume--almost like a steel string--with no more tension on the guitar than a traditionally made firm tension CLASSICAL set. TOTALLY UNIQUE!

The bass strings E, A, d are round wound on a nylon core for a big warm sound without distracting picking noises. The treble strings are flatwound nylon on a rope core and sound brighter than nylon strings. JOHN PEARSE is the perfect set for acoustic fingerstyle guitar.

Really Unique Strings

Purchased this set to get a brighter treble output on my Martin nylon 000 cutaway. They are a true hybrid set for classical and nylon guitars. Not meant for steel string instruments because the tension is much too light. The exception being very old guitars without truss rods. They are great for fingerpicking and light strumming. It's hard to describe the sound as they have a flatwound steel sound on the trebles with a normal bass nylon sound. So it's a nice compromise between steel and nylon sets which works great for beginners and anybody with issues like arthritis on the left hand. Super soft and easy to play with an overall mid-range tonality that isn't loud, but mellow with good projection. I won't be using anything else from now on when I string up a true folk guitar. No disappointments with this set for me as I have been a steel string player for over 50 years.
ProsNylon tension with light flatwound steel string characteristics Beautiful for fingerpicking Great for beginners on folk guitars Minimal impact on the chording hand Brightest treble set around I believe
ConsNot for classical or flamenco styles A little pricey
