NS Micro Headstock Tuner - One Size Tunes All

While the features grew, the size of the NS Mini just got smaller…introducing the NS Micro Headstock Tuner. The NS Micro offers improved accuracy, faster response, expanded calibration range, visual metronome mode and an improved ratchet design. A highly sensitive piezo transducer and easy to read multi-color backlit display allow smooth and highly accurate tuning in noisy, dim or well-lit environments while the micro design and reversible screen allow the tuner to hide effortlessly behind or mount on the front side of the headstock allowing the tuner to remain clamped to the instrument inside most cases when stored. A 360 degree swivel mechanism and adjustable padded clamp, offers optimal viewing angles and maximum positioning flexibility.  At a stealthy 1.25 inches it's the best performance they'll never see.

As a result, the NS Micro is equally at home on left and right-handed instruments as well as on small and large headstocks, making it the ideal choice for the widest variety of players and instruments. The NS Micro is powered by a readily available CR2032 battery (included) and provides maximum battery life utilizing an auto-off function, shutting the tuner off automatically after several minutes from power up. Enjoy effortless and inconspicuous tuning at a great value with the NS Micro Headstock Tuner. A Ned Steinberger design.

  • Built-in piezo transducer picks up instrument’s vibration rather than sound
  • Improved software for faster response and improved accuracy
  • Tri-color reversible backlit LCD screen makes it easy to tune in dark environments while allowing mounting in front or behind headstock
  • Wide calibration range (410Hz to 480Hz) and visual metronome
  • Compact design blends into the aesthetics of instrument while adding considerably less weight than other headstock tuners
  • Tunes acoustic and electric guitars, basses, mandolins, banjos and other stringed instruments

Is the NS Micro only for guitars?

No, while the NS Micro main design intent was for guitars and basses it will tune other instruments such as ukuleles, mandolins, and banjos. As long as the tuner can be securely mounted to a vibrating part of the instrument, you should be able to tune it.

I always see the NS micro mounted behind the headstock can it also mount in front of the headstock as well?

Certainly, though you will have to use the flip screen feature so that the orientation of the screen is correct.

Can the tuner be calibrated to other frequencies besides A440?

Yes, The NS Micro tuner has an expanded calibration range from 410Hz - 480Hz

Does the NS Micro have an auto off feature?

Yes, The NS Micro will automatically power down after 10 minutes of use to preserve battery life.

I noticed on one of my guitars that the tuner does not hold the note as long as on my other guitars. Why is this?

All guitars vibrate differently. It is very possible that the area you are clipping the tuner to has a vibration node. This is an area on the instrument that the vibration does not have a strong amplitude. In most cases clipping the tuner to another area of the headstock or instrument will solve the problem.

I use a lot of alternate tunings, can the NS Micro be used for these?

Yes, The NS Micro is a fully chromatic tuner meaning it can tune any note of the scale not just the standard open strings of a guitar.

I'm trying to tune my guitar to Eb. How would I do this on the NS micro?

The NS Micro only displays pitches in sharps. So to tune your guitar to Eb you would tune it to D#, G#, C#, F#, A#, D# Low string to high string.

The battery indicator is on. Will my tuner still work?

Yes, the battery indicator will come on once the tuner senses that the battery is getting low. This is a warning that you should purchase a new battery for the unit. When the battery gets low you may experience a dim display or poor performance of the tuner. Replacing the battery with new one will restore proper operation to the tuner.

What kind of battery does the NS Micro use?

The tuner uses a CR2032 3V coin cell. These batteries are readily available at most retail outlets.

Near Perfect, nearly invisible
Great tuner - very small, but still visible. Doesn't look awkward when you leave it on while playing. I've had a couple going for several years now - still going strong.
ProsDoes a good job of tuning, very small, but still easily visible.

A keeper
Perfect for my little telecaster headstock.
Super easy to use and very visible on a dimly lit stage.
Also, if it's good enough for Mr. Jim Campilongo, it's good enough for me !

Very well !!
This tuner is very practical, easy to tune strings, easy to put it on, easy to put it off. After a year and two months first time I changed battery on tuner. Now it is as first day.
ProsEasy use.

Great gadget to have on hand
I have used this on multiple guitars in multiple situations. It works well for quick, discreet tune ups and is the smallest headstock tuner I have ever (never) seen. I keep one on the headstock of my acoustic and it just lives there - in the case and on the stage.
The visual metronome is a great addition. I have had to start tunes cold and just set this so I can get my foot tapping at the right beat before kicking off, but no distracting noise.
I have to find just the right spot on the headstock to leave the tuner when using stands that hang the guitar from the headstock.
ProsTiny Multi function Easy to read
ConsBest placement may vary by instrument

Haven't changed the battery yet!
East to clip-on and read, and it delivers consistent results. I haven't changed the battery since I purchased it years ago.
ProsConvenient clip-on Swivel and orientation customization Easy to read Consistent tune-up
ConsSometimes I have to swivel the screen for the LED to sharpen the read-out (maybe it's time for a new battery?)

I love this tuner so much. Small and working perfectly. But bad thing it is too small. I have lost 5-6 of this already.
Pros- compact and fully function. - good design
Cons- very easy to loose or stolen as it is very small.

Pequeño y poderoso.
Este afinador es muy util, adem su peque tama hace que no sea molesto, y evita pasarlo a llevar con algo mas. Adem, su pantalla puede configurarse para ser puesto tanto por frente, como por detras del clavijero.

Excellent Low-Profile Tuner
This is an accurate, easy to read headstock tuner with a very low profile. I typically hate having a tuner on the headstock, but this one is so low profile that I don't mind having it up there even during a gig. Highly recommended!
Pros* Accurate * VERY small footprint * Easy to read despite small footprint (Bravo!)
Cons* Can be a little tricky to get on and off with one hand.

Compact, Unobtrusive, But Flawed
I've tried a few of these and so of my friends. Love the size and the fact they can stay on your instrument even in the case, but they burn through batteries like mad and are horribly inaccurate, downright wonky, as soon as the battery gets a bit weak.

Almost Invisible
This tuner is my first foray into headstock tuners and I am more than pleased so far. When it came it was much smaller than I expected and happily so. I clipped it on my acoustic and immediately found the "sweet spot" for it and proceeded to tune it up without any problems. I then clipped it onto my Telecaster, near the nut and with the display under the headstock, and it worked perfectly.
ProsSize, ease of use

Best tuner that is almost invisible.
I've had this tuner for over a year now and love it. Just ordered 3 more. Why? Because not only is it accurate, not only is it easy to see on a dark stage, it is also the smallest nearly invisible tuner out there. Korg has come out with a similar tuner but it is about twice the size of the NS Micro and still looks like an unwanted growth attached to your headstock.
ProsSmall, easy to read in the dark or light.
ConsButtons are close together and it is easy to hit the wrong one. Fortunately the power button is larger than the rest so you can feel it and it is centrally placed in the array.

Smaller and better...
I just popped these on a resonator and a Gibson J45 and they read frequency and tune EXCELLENTLY, but more importantly, they can stay ON the headstock in the case. I was constantly losing or having other types pop off or disappearing into the bowels of a gig bag or case. They are almost invisible on stage too, which is really nice on vintage instruments.
ProsTINY. Hide behind headstock. Accurate.
ConsOne tuner had a low battery at receipt. I think because they are minimally packaged and it may have been inadvertently turned on in storage or shipping? NO big deal...
