Item Description

Hand-made from the finest quality camel bone, these beautiful pins are indistinguishable from ivory and will make your guitar both look and sound marvelous!

Throughout their lives camels carry such heavy burdens that, as a result, their bones--particularly in their legs-- develop a density that very closely approximates that of elephant ivory. For this reason, camel bone has long been favored by carvers who were delighted by its stability and the ease with which it could be polished.

After carefully hand-lathing each pin, artisans inlay it with a dramatic Brass French Eye with Abalone Dot. John Pearse Camel Bone Pins are packaged as a set of six Pins with a chamfered edge --which means that the end of the pin is cut on an angle. When you insert the pin into the string slot, the chamfered end moves the pin past the ball of the string so that the ball seats along the side of the pin much more easily than without the chamfered end. When you are replacing a string in a hurry, it makes your life easier! It also means that your string will seat perfectly each time, not turning your guitar into a pin-launching cannon! The New John Pearse Bone Bridge Pin Sets are available in 3 different inserts [shown left to right], 6 pins to the set:

  • Simple Abalone Dot
  • Brass French Eye with Abalone Dot
  • Ebonite French Eye with Abalone Dot

NOW Available in John Pearse® Mini Leather Squeeze Pouch "Green Packaging" rather than the wooden box / plastic packaging as displayed for the photo!

better clarity and sustain
October 28, 2014
I have a laminate ash Washburn 12 string and solid mahogany Martin 12 string. I swapped out their plastic pins for brass ones, and noticed a definite improvement on the laminate but not much difference on the Martin. Decided to splurge on 2 sets of these John Pearse camel bone for the Martin and they made the change I was hoping for. Even the D and G wound strings, which till now have always had about 1/2 the sustain of the other strings, are now up to snuff. Mushy highs are gone, the bottom end has more 'punch' and all the strings have clarity. The rest of the guitar is stock and the strings are untreated phosphor-bronze.
  • definitely better connection between strings and soundboard
  • cost....... ouch!
