“For long life, great tone, and superior quality, use D’Addario strings.” - Chris Chaney, Jane’s Addiction

D'Addario's EXL Nickel Electric Bass Strings offer a distinct, bright tone, with excellent intonation and a "fret-friendly" nickel round wound feel that make them the top choice of bass players of all genres around the world. The nickel-plated wrap wire is ideal for magnetic pickups, relaying the highest sound quality.

All D'Addario strings are precisely wound around a hexagonally shaped high-carbon-steel core wire by computer-controlled machines guaranteeing clear intonation, rock-solid fundamentals, and incomparable consistency in every string. The tight core tension produced through this rigorous quality-controlled process results in a harmonically rich, longer-lasting string.

D'Addario SXL Bass strings are designed for use on Steinberger double ball end basses.

Pretty decent strings
Tried EB Super Slinkys, Rotosound stainless steel & GHS, but stay with D'Addarios. Twin packs are a good value option for the price.
ProsGreat feeling, bright tone, nice tension

Best value strings
I'm pretty much set on D'addario nickels XL 45-105 for my roundwound needs. I tried every brand imaginable, and DR Lo Rider were a favorite for some time, but I break those far too fast (longest they lasted was 3 months). Those were also pretty high tension. I tried Dunlop Super Brights too, and while nice, they were a bit too low tension and would give me fret buzz a bit too much. D'Addarios last the longest and give me a nice medium tension. I use these on my Stingray, while my Precision gets the flatwounds (La Bella). By far the best string value and consistency that I've used. I like to dig in and use a variety of dynamic playing, and these last the longest, while giving me a nice warm round tone. The twin pack is the best value string option out there IMO.
Pros- I don't break these nearly as much as other brands - best value - great consistency
Cons- hardly any cons, but if you're looking for a long lasting bright tone, these might not be for you

Best buy ever
I have no idea why would any fan of nickelplated roundwounds spend more money on a set of bass strings. I've tried a lot of different brands, but these puppies stayed fresh for the whole tour (11 days of intense abuse), without going radically out of tune or breaking. I don't think I'll ever buy any other strings.
ProsGreat tone Bright sound for a long time Reliable Cheap

my "go-to" string
The EXL twin packs are a compelling value in bass strings. I use them on all my four-stringers....'76 P and jazz bass clone.
Prosset-to-set and string-to-string consistency great value great feel to the fingers fret friendly

Good, for the price.
They aren't the best strings I've used, but for the price they can't be beat. They're good if you just want to throw on some strings and jam out for a bit. However, they don't really hold up over time and lose their tone fairly quickly compared to the more expensive sets (ie: Elixir). That said, they're great backups to throw in the gig bag, and won't break the bank!
