About Khruangbin
Every month, more than seven million listeners on Spotify tune into the distinct rock sounds of Khruangbin. Guitarist Mark Speer and drummer D.J. Johnson met in 2004 while playing together in a Texas church gospel band. After connecting with future bassist Laura Lee, the seeds for a new group began to form — which accelerated when Speer and Lee toured in 2010 with electronic rocker Yppah.
Extended sessions in a Burton, Texas barn led to the band’s bass-heavy instrumental sound that combines elements of psychedelic rock, funk, surf rock, soul and dub. The worldly influences can be seen in the band’s name, which is Thai for “airplane” and symbolizes how their music soars past conventional borders and boundaries. This approach has been gobbled up by fans with their recordings hitting every major worldwide music chart and collaborations with artists from Leon Bridges to Trey Anastasio. To this day, Khruangbin does all its records in the same barn where the band found its genesis.

To produce this fascinating musical blend, Khruangbin guitarist Mark Speer uses D’Addario XL Chromes Jazz Light 11-50 electric guitar strings. These strings are flat-wound and noticeably heavier than typical rock guitar strings, resulting in a warmer, more mellow tone perfectly suited to the Khruangbin sound. The sound remains consistent so each show and recording is on the same level. When it comes time for Speer to change strings, the D’Addario Guitar Pro-Winder with Built-in Clipper lets him do so fast with no sharp string ends left behind.
