I've played the same cheap Yamaha C-40 for more than 20 years, I've tried lots of strings with mixed results, these strings brought my guitar back to life. Yes .. they're more expensive than other brands in my country ( Chile) but I'll stick to these from now on.

Longevity of these strings disappoints

With the normal tension strings I find the high E (first string) had nice tonal qualities at the beginning. This does not last.

The sound becomes harsh and metallic after a while no matter how differently I try to pluck the string. I just changed this normal tension E for a high tension one that I had previously used with the set.

My hands tired so I replaced these with the present medium tension ones.

Well the high tension E does have a very slightly better tone, but as it was previously used, it also lost its initial velvety tone.

Very frustrating!

Great strings

Having extensively used Savarez 500CRJ ("New Cristal Corum" in mixed tension), I was familiar with the excellent trebles that come with this new Cantiga set. It was the Cantiga basses I was curious about. They don't disappoint, providing a powerful but pretty smooth bass that blends well with the bright trebles. More rigid (seems to me) than the Corum basses, I think they provide a better balance with the trebles. While I can't decide whether I prefer them to Corum, I can confidently say that the Cantiga basses are of similar quality to the Corums and provide an equally good but definitely different tone from the 500s.
  • Excellent sound, tonal versatility.
  • Highly responsive to vibrato.
  • Easy playability.

In the pursuit to finding the strings that deliver value and performance, I have settled on the Cantiga Savarez. The tone and response of the strings are great and (after the initial break in period) the strings stay tuned. I have only been playing the strings a couple of weeks so to the longevity of the strings I can't address. Over all, I am pleased with the strings.
