The M1 includes a built-in all Class A discrete preamp along with L.R. The M1 Active also features individually adjustable pole pieces with smooth, threadless tops allowing for the perfect balance in any acoustic guitar.

The M1 Active will fit guitars with sound holes larger than 3.5" that are centered beneath the strings. Ensure that this product will fit the guitar properly before installing the strapjack. We do not provide advice or support for home or hobbyist wood working.

LR Baggs M1 active
January 16, 2021
After another pickup system failed, I had to quickly replace it because of a live worship setting the next week. I bought and installed the LR Baggs M1 active myself. I noticed one problem solved immediately: no need to plug the sound hole to eliminate feedback because there was no problem using this PU system. Since switching to the LR Baggs M1 active, I've had musicians and non-musicians ask me what I was using that made my guitar sound so acoustic. Funny, because my previous system had a condenser mic and under saddle ribbon PU and this one is an active magnetic PU!!

Plugged into an LR Baggs ParaDI gave me more control (and didn't ever need a 9-volt battery because it can be powered using phantom power from XLR output to the soundboard mixer). Later changed to BBE Acoustimax and was pleasantly surprised how my acoustic stood out in the mix with the BBE system. This room changed dramatically from being empty to full with bodies absorbing frequencies; the Acoustimax with the LR Baggs M1 active was a great combination... even though I really missed the Baggs ParaDI's phantom-powered feature (the Acoustimax has to always be plugged into AC--so bring a good extension cord if you go this route).
Pros* Easy installation * Clear acoustic sound (not that nasal crappy sound from piezo PU) * No sound artifacts from bridge technique playing (palm touching bridge for muting or hand stability) like you'd get from an under-the-saddle pickup (USPU). This was a welcomed surprise! I could go wild, and it wasn't amplified like my other system where I had to be really careful when playing solo or when the other musicians played quieter. * Crazy LONG battery life and easy to change when you need to. * Volume control at your fingertips (set to a lower setting and let the sound guy adjust the FOH and monitors--then you have room to turn it up when the sound "guy" falls asleep on the job and you need more volume (wink). * Adjustable; I slightly slanted mine to align it for maximum string placement under every string, which depends on the guitar's string distance from each other); you can adjust each string pole if you want to change individual volume--I never needed to; default was great. * Worked flawlessly week-after-week
ConsCan't think of any.

Great Natural Versatile Acoustic Pickup
February 10, 2018
I've had several years of very good experience with this pickup. It sounds really natural, a bit magnetic/metallic (vs the UST quack/direct off the string sound)- but, that's not bad - a little eq can really make this sparkle, shine, and strum. You won't get any low/deep percussive body tapping - if you use that - but that's about the only drawback (for me). The only way to improve this PU is to get the LR Baggs M-80 ... which i did ... it is a step up from the M1-A - and worth it!! Both are really nice!

Wonderful pick-up

This is one of the best pickups I've ever found myself toying around with. I've used a handful of sound hole, suction cup, clip on, and piezo pickups over the years and this one proves to be one of the best.

It has a very warm low-end with very crisp highs. Although I've only just started to dive in to tinkering with the height of the posts and different string materials, it works wonders right out of the box.

Since there is a bit of drilling involved for a first time install, I would recommend taking it to someone whose got a bit of woodworking experience.
