String breaks at ball end
March 7, 2022
In December 2020 I put 830s on my classical guitar. They had a small plastic white cube as the ball end (with the string number) I like this feature. Strings played & sounded wonderful. Here a year & half later I put 830s on my new classical and three attempts to install the 1st (high E) resulted in the string breaking at the ball end (no longer the white plastic cube). As the break resulted in the loss of about 1-1/2 inch, I retired the knot, threaded thru the tiny black plastic stop-sleeve, and again slowly tightened the string to proper tension. Again the same break two full tones before final pitch.
I did this three times, three breaks exactly the same but the last left me with not enough string remaining for a forth try. Maybe a bad batch of string material. I miss the white cube end that didn't break. I'm done with the 830s even if these are the strings used by Willie Nelson.
Cons
  • String brittle at ball end.

Strings break at ball end. Happiness ends abruptly.
February 11, 2019
Installed a set on my vintage classical last week. The set is so different than a standard classical set that it takes a few minutes to decide whether you like it or not. I liked it rather a lot. After playing for a couple of hours, I put the guitar back in the case. When I opened the case the next day, the E-1st string had broken at the ball end. I ordered a few singles to replace the broken string, but before the new strings arrived the D-4th had broken (while in the case, as well).

I am impressed with the sound of the strings, but altogether unimpressed with the ball ends. La Bella should sell the same set without the ball ends. I'd be happy to tie them on myself.
Pros
  • Sound great.
Cons
  • Break at the ball ends.
