Item Description

When a respected guitar string company touts a new innovation, serious musicians should take notice. In this case, Ernie Ball calls its new Aluminum Bronze Acoustic Strings "the most significant materials innovation improvement for acoustic strings since 1974."

Made from a blend of copper and aluminum specifically tailored for acoustic guitar strings, these Ernie Ball strings deliver more projection and clarity than traditional bronze strings. The added aluminum helps provide improved corrosion resistance to annoying problems like sweat and string impurities. These strings are made with Ernie Ball Maraging Steel hex cores and aluminum bronze wrap wire to provide more pronounced lows coupled with crisp, brilliant highs.

Are Ernie Ball acoustic strings good enough to be declared the best acoustic guitar strings around? There's only one way to find out. Put 'em to the acid test: order a package and decide for yourself.

Favorite overall

I bought a large selection of strings, pretty much all the brands, and these are my favorite by far. They have the best bark on my Eastman E20OM. Really like their tone.

Great strings.

I have used aluminum/bronze med-lights on my D 18 Martin for over two years. I constantly get compliments on the guitar's tone from other players and listeners at jams. (Trust me, the compliments aren't due to my playing!). The a/b strings don't suffer in comparison with mediums, they feel good, and they seem to last a good, long time before dying.

I recommend them highly.

Really sound good on older yamahas.

I can't say much about these on other guitars, but I have 2 older Yamaha's (late 70's and early 80's) and these are the best I've heard on these guitars. They record excellently and sound awesome live. I've tried a lot of different strings and string formulations (playing 25 years).

A buddy with a 70's yamaha turned me onto these and they also sounded great on his guitar.
Pros
  • Tone is awesome.
  • They seem a little more flexible that some other strings once they break in.
Cons
  • Had 1 string (about 8 months old) go buzzy on me due to a ball coming loose (out of 4 packs so far). I play a lot so I consider this to be a good life time for a set of strings. However, the tone of the strings was still awesome, so the ball coming loose put an artificial end to that set of strings.
  • I don't consider this a negative really, just wanted to note it.

Unique strings

These are my preferred strings for one of my guitars. They have a ring to them that no other string seem to have and bring out more sustain. I've tried them on another guitar as well, and they sound a bit tinny on those, so they're not for every guitar.
Pros
  • Great ring
  • Long lifespan for uncoated strings
Cons
  • Can sound tinny on guitars
