Item Description

In the DR tradition of using old style construction to improve modern performance, PURE BLUES electric guitar strings are designed with pure nickel wrap wire, round wound upon round cores. While this is a slow, expensive method of string making, it does produce a string acclaimed for increased sustain, vintage tone, and great low tones for playing rhythm to lead. The extra step of winding pure nickel around a round core gives the PURE-BLUES a punch that players say they are surprised to get in a vintage string. Sounds great on any vintage guitar!!

10-46 on my Fenders, 11-50 on my Gibsons.
Been loyal for years, now and then cheat, but always end up back at the honey pot.
My favs!
  • Keep nice tone for ages.
  • No cons here.

Pure Blues by DR are my number 1 guitar strings for vintage style guitars. These are accurate to vintage specs in terms of construction: pure nickel wind on round core. Unlike other pure nickel round core strings, DR Pure Blues sound crisp and are consistently polished without corrosion. This is in addition to the usual benefits of round core strings: lower tension, warmer tone.

Best of all the price cannot be beat. Best bang for the buck, and it's a whole lot of bang.
  • Vintage accurate strings: pure nickel, round core
  • Unlike other (often more expensive) pure nickel, round core brands, DRs sound crisp
  • Lower tension makes bending easier
  • Unbeatable price - cheapest pure nickel round cores available
  • Corrosion proof plastic sealed packaging
  • Strings are packaged in pairs instead of individually
  • DR should make flatwound version of these strings available as well.

I've used several different Pure Nickel 10 gauge sets on my Historic Gibsons and considering the combined aspects of tone, feel, longevity and cost settled on these DR's.

However over several years use I've experienced the same issues as most do at some point with round core string : the odd A or D string that won't intonate or simply buzzes as if fretting out.

I did have a period of plain E / B string breakages after only 1 or 2 days. Not saddle related as I had the same problem across 3 guitars. I'd bought 20+ sets and put it down to a certain batch. I've not had any such recurring problem in the years since.

Love these on my strat - takes the bright edge off ever so slightly and they have great overall tone and relative longevity.
