Item Description

'The Pure Nickel .011's are on all my electrics ... I like the definition and warmth of these strings and I don't have to worry about them being too bright when they are first put on. Just right!' - Keith Urban's guitarist Chris Rodriguez

Attention blues, classic rock and rockabilly musicians looking for that warm, vintage sound. D’Addario EPN Pure Nickel Round Wound electric guitar strings provide that authentic 50s and 60s sound and a 'fret-friendly' feel. The difference is the pure nickel round wound wrap wire that produces a warmer timbre compared to the brighter tone of the 8 percent nickel-plated wrap wire used on the D'Addario EXL Nickel Round Wound Electric Guitar Strings. Like all D’Addario strings, the Pure Nickels are precisely wound on hexagonal core wires under strict quality control standards for consistency in every string.

D'Addario has incorporated Corrosion Intercept Technology with their environmentally friendly packaging to insure your strings are green, and fresh for the pickin'!

The application of Corrosion Intercept Technology, developed by Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs, is the most significant development in string packaging since D'Addario pioneered the environmental string package in 1992. Each Corrosion Intercept bag employs a plastic which contains a gas-neutralizing barrier in the polymer matrix. This barrier reacts with and neutralizes gasses which cause materials to tarnish, guaranteeing that your D'Addario strings are as fresh and tarnish-free as the day we packaged them. Since Corrosion Intercept bags are both environmentally friendly and completely recyclable, they'll keep our planet untarnished as well.

Also, as a result of D'Addario's Player's Points Program, several tons of packaging redeemed for D'Addario gear gets systematically recycled every year.

All D'Addario packaging is either produced from recycled materials or is completely recyclable.

Al Schnier of Moe talks about D'Addario's environmentally friendly packaging.

All in for Pure Nickel

These are the best strings out there!! People talk about that sixties sound for amps and guitars, but these strings are also a huge contributor for that sound. The old nickel strings had a round core (which you can still buy them that way), but the wrap was very prone to loosening; not good! These hex core strings fixed that issue with no loss of tone.

I buy 10 packs at a time (wish there was a bulk 10 pack) and they are on all my guitars including my Martin DST, so that the feel is the same from one guitar to the next. Oddly enough, they sound great on my Martin, especially when plugged in. Less string noise as well!
Pros
  • Great for all styles of music, well maybe not metal!
  • Long length, long enough for my ES-355 with a Bigsby.
  • No worries about the wrap coming loose!
  • A little less hard than the frets; slows down fret wear.
  • Nice warmth for playing jazz when you want it!
Cons
  • Because they are softer metal than frets, you will be replacing them more often. That said, I always put on a fresh set on before each performance.
