About Loathe
After a decade of toiling, Loathe is becoming a metal superpower on the level of Slipknot, Iron Maiden and other bands that have crossed into the mainstream. Since the band formed in Liverpool in 2014, it has steadily climbed the musical ladder. A slow burn may not be as sexy as a shooting star, but the approach pays off. In 2023, the band reached one million monthly listens on Spotify, and there’s still no sign of reaching the top of the mountain.
Part of the reason for their rising popularity is the unique, style-bending sound. People have tried to place Loathe in so many metal genres — yet the band defies them all. With elements of classic heavy metal, nu-metal, metalcore, shoegaze and more, they’ve carved a niche that manages to have a wider appeal. They’ve shown they aren’t afraid to completely throw the rules out, either; their third studio album, “The Things They Believe”, was all ambient music with no vocals!
What Strings Do Loathe Use?
Loathe uses D’Addario strings for all recordings and performances. Guitarist Erik Bickerstaffe employs a variety of nickel strings, including D’Addario EXL140-8 Light Top/Heavy Bottom 10-74 Strings for his eight-string guitar and D’Addario EXL157 Baritone 14-68 Strings for his six-string baritone guitar. He’s even been known to put special guitar/bass strings on to reach those soul-shattering low notes. As for bassist Feisal El-Khazragi, he goes with D'Addario XL Pro Steels EPS165 Long Scale Regular Light Top/Medium Bottom 45-105 Strings on the four-string bass and D'Addario Nickel Wound EXL165-5 Regular Light Top/Medium Bottom 45-135 on the five-string bass.
