Deep & pliable
February 10, 2019
My Kala U-Bass has very high action. With rubbery-type strings I don't feel the pain. Most recently I tried Kala U-Bass Metal Round Wound strings with stiff tension, impossible for me to play. The high action was obvious, & Metal was replaced immediately with Thunderblack. I'll probably stay with these for a while, although I also tried Rumblers & Dreads to which I probably shan't return. Rubber strings eventually stretch to the point of being unusable. The 1st string (g) gets so thin that the piezo doesn't pick up the sound. Thunderblack has very deep tone & potentially muddy. I use a GK brain with two 10s & compression pedal. I used to have massive reggae rigs where U-Bass notes were indistinguishable. Thus, my synopsis for U-Bass & rubber strings: Small cones = good.
Pros
- Pliable
Cons
- Muddy potential
