Back From the "Dead" - Stage Pro Element Upstages Shadow
December 25, 2013
I own a Dean Noveau which came factory - equipped with a Shadow undersaddle pick up / pre amp combo. Replaced original pickup with EMG ( much better ) but the pre amp was always somewhat disappointing performance - wise. Eventually "retired" the Dean when I came into posession of a Gibson L-140 - but really missed the long, sexy neck of the Dean. After MANY conversations with other guitarists and my own techs ( I have 3 ) we decided to install the Stage Pro Element in the Dean ( the hole for the Shadow was only slightly smaller than the Stage Pro would require ). After much anticipation I put the Dean ( Jenny ) back into my "lineup" for my next show - all I can say is, "WoW!!" Jenny ( the Dean ) is not only "back from the dead" but actually sounds BETTER than the $2,200.00 Gibson ( seriously - no kidding ). This is one heck of a KICK - ASS answer for ANY Acoustic Player looking to add professional, full - stage adaptable amplification for your "go to" guitar. Kudos to L R Baggs - you guys really nailed it!!
Pros:Tuner is VERY convenient and the variety of tonal possibilities / adjustments & phase and notch filter combined with ease of changing battery make this a "no - brainer" for me
Cons:Jenny already had a hole cut out for the previous pre amp - NOBODY "likes" cutting a hole into their guitar - I'm considering the L R Baggs Element VTC for a Taylor GC6 i just got - it's just TOO pretty to poke a hole in
