Item Description

New from Elixir... Elixir HD Light 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings

Bolder, stronger high end
Fuller, warmer low end
Balanced voice across all strings

Gauges: 13 17 25 32 42 53

New Elixir HD Light Strings have a bolder high end and fuller low end with a balanced voice across all strings. This was achieved by blending the plain steel strings of a medium gauge set with the wound strings of a light gauge set, bridged by a custom .025 third string. The increased tension of the treble strings improves their articulation. The interaction of the tension profile with the soundboard also adds to the harmonic content of the bass strings. The HD Light strings deliver the extended tone life that players have come to expect from all Elixir Strings.

"They are rather lovely strings! - using a 000x1 Martin and comparing to my usual 12's the HD's are significantly 'fuller'. Across all strings there is more 'punch' and 'warmth'. With 12's when dropping to the dark depths of Bb the strings are so slack the sound is very thin and there is a significant loss of sustain and tone, the HD's give a bit more continuity across all tunings..." - Chris Woods,

Liking them so far
These strings will be a little brassy until they've broken in some. I wouldn't use a pick on them fresh or it will make you think they are very harsh. Stick with fingers/fingernail until a couple days in and even then you don't necessarily want to use a pick since these sounds amazing with nail strumming and finger picking of any kind. I would describe the tone without pick as bright, articulate but still containing a very rich and warm bottom end. The large "dynamic range" makes it sound very full, like more than one instrument is playing (in a good way). With a pick they aren't quite as interesting to my ear but still a very nice complex sound especially with lighter playing.

I can't vouch for how long they last yet as I haven't had them long enough, but tone-wise I recommend them.
ProsGreat for finger-picking/ nail strumming..nice and bright but still has complex depth and warmth for a wide dynamic range, especially with fingers. Has a slightly slick feel and low finger noise. Is a product made in the USA.
ConsPricey, but should last a while (not verified yet), so not really a major con. Might be too bright/harsh for heavy pick strummers, go with Phosphor Bronze if so.
