Item Description

Dave Matthews prefers EXP16's on his acoustic, what's your flavor?

D'Addario EXP Coated Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings provide more sound per strum than traditional non-coated strings!

"D'Addario EXP strings provide insurance against corrosion and tarnish. The coating helps preserve the crisp tone that Dave prefers." - Monk (Dave Matthew's guitar tech)

D'Addario EXP Coated Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings offer a warm, well balanced acoustic tone, with bright intonation and a "fret-friendly" round wound feel of traditional non-coated strings, that last 3 to 4 times longer. The micro-fine EXP coating on the wrap wire, and the compound plated steel strings, resist corrosion, extending the same natural tone and feel you would get from the best selling D'Addario EJ Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings.

D’Addario’s EXP Coated Strings now feature plain steel strings and hexagonal cores made of our revolutionary NY High Carbon Steel. Envisioned, perfected, and manufactured by D’Addario in New York, this newly engineered, break-resistant, high-carbon steel wire delivers unprecedented strength and pitch stability. Combined with the highest quality wrap wire materials, precision drawn and micro-coated on our advanced proprietary machinery, each EXP set maintains that familiar uncoated tone while adding up to 4 times more life!

Product Video

D'Addario has incorporated Corrosion Intercept Technology with their environmentally friendly packaging to insure your strings are green, and fresh for the pickin'!

The application of Corrosion Intercept Technology, developed by Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs, is the most significant development in string packaging since D'Addario pioneered the environmental string package in 1992. Each Corrosion Intercept bag employs a plastic which contains a gas-neutralizing barrier in the polymer matrix. This barrier reacts with and neutralizes gasses which cause materials to tarnish, guaranteeing that your D'Addario strings are as fresh and tarnish-free as the day we packaged them. Since Corrosion Intercept bags are both environmentally friendly and completely recyclable, they'll keep our planet untarnished as well.

Also, as a result of D'Addario's Player's Points Program, several tons of packaging redeemed for D'Addario gear gets systematically recycled every year.

All D'Addario packaging is either produced from recycled materials or is completely recyclable.

Al Schnier of Moe talks about D'Addario's environmentally friendly packaging.

D'addario strings EXP 16 and EXP 16 D
I really wish D'Add would mitigate the confusion between the EXP 16 and the EXP 16 D. They are exactly the same string, the only difference being the EXP 16 "D" version comes in a 3 pack. I ve used the D'ADDS EXP 16s for many, many years. And have not noticed a difference between the NY steel PB and the original EXP 16 Phospher Bronze either. They both stayed in tune and if anything the NY steel play a very slightly bit stiffer but it is the same unqualified best string on the market for my 40 acoustic guitars and always has been.

Great strings!
Tone is great for a coated string. Intonation perfect. I had no problem with tuning. I stretched them 3 times to make sure. I'm a fan. Great strings you guys make!

Great Coated Strings . . . that don't feel coated!
I have tried these on a Martin SWOMGT and have found them to be highly responsive and very long lasting. They handle alternate tunings well - in fact, a little better than most.
ProsLong lasting Do not feel coated (you can dig in with a pick) Works well with a cherry/spruce guitar
ConsNone that I can think of

Sweaty hands? Here is the answer
I absolutely love these strings! I have really sweaty hands - i'm one of those guys that used to change strings after only an 1 or 2 sessions of playing as the strings would rust fairly quickly. When i started used EXP I found out what it was like to be one of those guys that didnt have to worry about changing strings all the time. And the best thing is that you dont notice the anti-corrosion coating like some other brands... its like a normal set of strings in my opinion. Easily the best thig since sliced bread. #expforlife
ProsAnti corrosion that works so much longer lasting. No different feel to non coated strings.

Great Sound at First
I was convinced to purchase these coated D'Addarios due to the fact that my local music store was out of my normal Elixer Nanoweb. The sales rep swore up and down that people have been praising them and saying they are better than the Elixers. So I have them a shot. Once put on they sound AWESOME.... 2 minutes later you're having to retune them... 2 minutes later retune.... 2 minutes later retune... They STRETCH a LOT! On top of that, 3 days of not much play I notice rust! Long story short, if you want a coated set of strings, go with Elixer Nanoweb or Elixer Polyweb(thicker coating) D'Addario should leave the coated string game alone. Elixer has it covered!
ProsGreat Vibrant Sound when first installed Less Finger Movement Noice
Cons Stretch WAY Too Much when first installed Coating does not last long at all! Coating is also too slick, almost like oil High Price with a Short Life

Great strings!
These strings are perfect out of the box, not super bright like other brands when brand new, but hold their tone quite long and well. I play them really hard and they hold up very well, I've never broken one yet!

One of the best coated strings
that money can buy. They last a considerable time longer than almost any other coated string under heavy daily use.
Hold their tone very well. Stay dead in tune. SNB is the very best place to get them for sure
Proskeep their tone stay in tune even under excessive bending have a very balanced response

EXP 19
I like the EXP 19's a lot. I've been using them on my Martin 000-40 MK Ragpicker's Dream. With this guitar, a normal light string set doesn't bring out the bass in a balanced sense. The hybrid bluegrass set has larger gauge bass strings and lighter treble strings and it brings out the best in both worlds for me.
ProsLong lasting, more bass than light strings

My primary strings are Martins. I'm trying out the EXP's. They seem to sound very good. Will need more time for them to grow on me. Still good strings

EXPressive strings!
I recently decided to put a set of D'Addario EXP-17 strings on my 2009 Taylor 414ce-LTD-R and impressed that a coated string has the ability to sound so good. Well done, D'Addario!
ProsProduct is superior to Elixir.

The best coated strings...
Let's face it changing strings is not my idea of fun. My all time favorite EJ-16 strings just got bumped for the EXP-16s. Same sound, excellent feel, but extended life. I could not be more satified.
ProsNot overly slippery like Elixir. Nice feel and that warm EJ-16 tone that stays up to 50% longer
ConsNothing but maybe the price!

Best coated strings out there
I use these on my D-18 Authentic is 13 gauge when the weather is humid as they last longer than the Martins I use otherwise. Very bright for a coated string and they seem a bit more flexible in the wound strings than other brands. If you want mud get Elixers, but if you want a punchy string that stands out in bluegrass get EXP!

These strings are the ones I have been looking for to put on my Taylor 710ce LTD and 67 Gibson J45. Great feel and the sound is awesome.
