Item Description

These Dean Markley SR2000 Bass Guitar 5 Strings Medium are one free swinging set, providing the widest variance of tone on the market!

Dean Markley's are the greatest strings in the world and I will use them forever! Bill "The Budha" Dickens

Dean Markley SR2000 Bass Guitar 5 Strings Medium Light offer a complete range of tone that cuts through, with a taper wrapping that allows the string to vibrate longer for maximum sustain. The versatility is apparent in the range of sound, from their growl to their pop.

Similar to piano strings, the SR2000's exposed core due to the lack of winding over the bridge allows the string liberty to vibrate uninhibited.

Using this set for 10+ string changes in a row now
I've been using this set on one of my basses for over a decade, and I absolutely love how it makes my go-to bass sound. They are bright and punchy, but not overly harsh. With an active bass, you can really tailor the tone you want from these strings.

The most unique feature of this string is the taper at the bridge. This is not an exposed core string; rather, they taper down to an inner winding, probably the small gauge winding that is right over the solid core of the string. With a standard string-through-bridge application (Hipshot a or B, standard Fender, etc.), this puts that small inner wrap right on the bridge saddles, and then tapers back to the full gauge within 1/2 inch or so of leaving the saddle. The transient snap that I get from this string is unparalleled by any other string I've tried. The next closest would be a lighter gauge stainless steel, I estimate. The decay of the sound stay very 'piano-like' until the string has accumulated all the dirt and oil it can handle. I find this string sounds good much longer than a non-taper nickel-wound. Only a coated string would give you longer life (tone similar to fresh out-of-the-box sound).

I will continue to have at least one bass in my arsenal sporting these great sounding strings.
ProsTight tone Unique taper core on B, E, A, and D strings Reasonable price Pretty long life
ConsIf you are picky about string height (and you should be), you will need to adjust your string saddles if you've been using non-taper-core strings. Since these strings sit on the saddles closer to the 'center' of the string, you will need to raise your saddles slightly to compensate (assuming your saddles are in the right spot previously). They aren't coated strings.
