Pretty good tone but strings wear quickly
March 19, 2019
I'm searching for a new brand of string because Dean Markley has proven to be unreliable and S&B is often out of stock. I'm allergic to nickel but I couldn't figure out if there is nickel in the alloy that is used to make these strings. Sent an email to Sfarzo but didn't get a reply. I ordered a set of the 11-48 Blues anyways and put them on my vintage Gibson SG. Turns out that there is nickel in the alloy as my fingers started to react. Anyways, these strings sound pretty damned good. Very nice feel to the string and I found that they were easy to bend. Not as bright as steel strings but the tone is very good. The strings tarnished very quickly and the D and A string quickly lost their tone because of "pits" (strings get dents where they contact frets.) If you have a light touch then you might get more life out of the strings than me. I'm going to keep searching for my new go-to brand.
Pros
- Very good tone
Cons
- Nickel in the Alloy
- Wear quickly
